Who is this job for?
Research scientist posts at BRIC-NIAB, Hyderabad, for PhD holders who want to lead their own livestock biotechnology programme. One Scientist-D (Pay Level 12) and four Scientist-C (Pay Level 11) posts are open across virology, bacterial pathogenesis and AMR, animal nutrition, immunology and vaccines, and genome engineering.

Job Description
BRIC-NIAB invites applications from suitably qualified, dynamic, result oriented and dedicated Indian citizens for filling up the following positions (Advertisement No. 31/2026):
Scientist-D – 01 Position (UR)
Pay Level 12 as per 7th CPC. Method of recruitment: By Direct Recruitment failing which by Deputation (including short term contract). Age limit: Not exceeding 40 years for direct recruitment; not exceeding 56 years on deputation (including short-term contract).
Scientist-C – 04 Positions: 2 Post (UR), 1 Post (OBC) & 1 Post (EWS)
Pay Level 11 as per 7th CPC. Method of recruitment: By Direct Recruitment basis. Age limit: Not exceeding 35 years.
Job Description (both posts): The selected candidate is supposed to work on production, reproduction and health aspects of Livestock using modern tools of biotechnology. In addition to own research programme, he/she is expected to provide support to other research projects at NIAB. The selected candidates are also expected to lead the HRD programme of the Institute. In addition, candidates have to attract extra-mural funding to establish and lead research programs. Any other duties assigned by the competent authority.
The applicants can apply in any one of the research areas as mentioned below:
(i) Molecular Virology and Virus–Host Interactions: Expertise in livestock and poultry viral pathogens, mechanisms of infection and host adaptation, and systems biology and multiomics approaches to viral disease research.
(ii) Bacterial Pathogenesis and Antimicrobial Resistance: Expertise in livestock and poultry bacterial pathogens, mechanisms of virulence, antimicrobial resistance, and functional genomics approaches to bacterial disease control.
(iii) Precision Animal Nutrition and Nutritional Physiology: Expertise in nutrient metabolism, feed utilisation, diet–microbiome interactions, and nutritional interventions to improve livestock and poultry health and productivity.
(iv) Immunology and Vaccine Science: Expertise in protective immune responses, antigen discovery, vaccine design and evaluation, and development and validation of immunological assays.
(v) Animal Genome Engineering and Xenotransplantation: Expertise in genome editing of animals, genetic modification to improve cross-species compatibility, and preclinical evaluation of xenogeneic cells, tissues and organs for graft function, rejection and safety.
Qualifications
- Scientist-D (direct recruits): Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in any discipline of Life Sciences/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Chemistry/Computational Biology/Pharmaceutical Sciences/Molecular Biology/Agricultural Sciences/Plant Sciences/related disciplines; or Ph.D. in Engineering or Technology in disciplines like Chemical/Biomedical/Pharmaceutical engineering or Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in any branch of medicine/MDS/MVSc, from a recognised University or Institute or relevant areas of research, with minimum three years of post-qualification experience in responsible higher position in research/teaching Institute/University/industry with published research of highest standards and/or technologies of established utility.
- Scientist-D (deputation/absorption): Scientists of the Central Govt/State Govt/Universities/Public Sector Undertakings or Government funded research organisations/institutes possessing the qualification for direct recruits and holding an analogous post on regular basis in parent cadre, or with 5 years regular service in Level-11 in the relevant field.
- Scientist-C: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in any discipline of Life Sciences/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Chemistry/Computational Biology/Pharmaceutical Sciences/Molecular Biology/Agricultural Sciences/Plant Sciences/related disciplines; or Ph.D. in Engineering or Technology in disciplines like Chemical/Biomedical/Pharmaceutical engineering or Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in any branch of medicine/MDS/MVSc, from a recognised University or Institute or relevant areas of research.
