Who is this job for?
This is the CSIR-IGIB PhD admission for the January 2027 session in Delhi. It suits MSc or MTech graduates who already hold a JRF and want doctoral research in genomics, genome informatics, digital health and AI, structural biology or infectious disease. The degree is awarded by AcSIR.
Eligibility at a glance

Job Description
The CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB) invites applications from bright young individuals from diverse backgrounds with strong motivation and good academic credentials to pursue research in the frontier areas of modern biology leading to a PhD degree. The broad interdisciplinary research areas are:
• Chemical & Systems Biology
• Genomics & Genome Editing
• Genome Informatics
• Digital Health and AI
• Functional Biology
• Microbiology & Infectious Disease
• RNA & Cell Biology
• Skin Biology
• Structural Biology
PhD students in CSIR-IGIB are enrolled in the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) and the degree will be awarded by AcSIR.
Selection: The CSIR-IGIB interviews will be held in person at the CSIR-IGIB South and North Campuses, Delhi. Eligible candidates who completed the application form and paid the application fee will receive an email with the admit card for the interviews. The interviews are aimed at assessing the suitability of the candidate for the PhD program; candidates will be evaluated for their ability to comprehend, analyse and reason. The names of candidates eligible to join will be declared on the institute website within a week of the interviews. Admission is subject to verification of all documents. No TA/DA will be paid at any stage of the selection or admission process. Candidates who have already activated JRF fellowships elsewhere must furnish a consent letter from the appropriate authority for transfer of fellowship.
Qualifications
- At least 60% in the XII standard board examination (convert CGPA to percentage).
- Masters (M.Sc/M.Tech) with at least 60% in any branch of Life Sciences/Biotechnology/Chemistry/Physics/Mathematics/Computer Science or allied subjects, with special interest in Biology.
- SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy) candidates: at least 55% in the highest qualifying exam and in the XII standard board examination.
- Candidates awaiting results of the highest qualifying examination may appear for interviews; admission is subject to clearing all eligibility criteria at the time of admission.
- A valid fellowship certificate at the time of joining (valid at least till 31 Jan 2027): CSIR-UGC (JRF) / DBT (JRF) / ICMR-JRF or equivalent. Fellowship conditions should allow the candidate to work in CSIR laboratories and on CSIR projects. GATE score is NOT a valid fellowship criterion for MSc/MTech candidates.
- Upper age limit: 30 years (as on 31 October 2026), relaxed for women, SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy)/physically handicapped persons as per Govt. of India rules.
