Job Description
The labs of Prof. Emanuela Pasciuto and Prof. Sarah Weckhuysen at the VIB-UA Center for Molecular Neurology (Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences, University of Antwerp) are looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Neuroimmunology. The PhD project combines work with human samples and animal models of disease, and the candidate will prepare and defend a PhD thesis in Biomedical Sciences.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively work on the preparation and defense of a PhD thesis in the field of Biomedical Sciences
- Draw up a research plan and corresponding research methods in consultation with your supervisor(s) and undertake the necessary administration for a smooth PhD process
- Conduct the research efficiently and to an appropriate standard
- Report progress to your supervisor(s) and committees and present your research at scientific conferences
- Work with both human samples and animal models of disease
- Defend your thesis publicly and aim for publication in the scientific press
- Make a supporting scientific contribution to existing research projects within or beyond your own doctoral research
- Compete for internal or external predoctoral funding
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnologies or a related discipline (or obtained by the time of appointment)
- Master's degree or equivalent diploma obtained not earlier than 1 February 2026
- Must be eligible to apply for an FWO fellowship (check eligibility of your diploma, Art. 6, before applying)
- Evidence of excellent study results
- FELASA-B certificate and confidence working with rodents
- Good knowledge of English, both oral and written
Experience
Recent Master's graduates (degree obtained on or after 1 February 2026). A solid background in immunology and/or genetics is an advantage.
