Job Description
The Smargon Laboratory at Nanyang Technological University invites applications for two fully funded Ph.D. positions starting in August 2027. The research opportunities focus on two areas: developing safer genetic therapeutics and studying the molecular mechanisms of cellular ageing.
The laboratory seeks self-motivated candidates with diverse academic and research backgrounds, meaningful research contributions, and proficiency in relevant experimental or computational techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research toward developing safer genetic therapeutics.
- Investigate molecular mechanisms underlying cellular ageing.
- Contribute to experimental and computational research activities relevant to the selected research area.
- Participate in scientific investigations and contribute to research manuscripts.
- Specific project duties will depend on the selected research topic.
Qualifications
- Applicants interested in pursuing a Ph.D. are welcome to apply.
- A diverse research and academic background is strongly preferred.
- A meaningful contribution to at least one impactful research manuscript that has been published or is under review is strongly preferred.
Experience
Meaningful contribution to at least one impactful research manuscript, published or under review, is strongly preferred.
Proficiency in at least two of the following areas is strongly preferred:
Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS).
High-content imaging.
Toxicology.
Lentivirus-related techniques.
Organoid research.
Genomics and transcriptomics.
RNA biology and therapeutics.
Skills Required
- Relevant experimental and computational research skills.
- Experience in molecular biology or related life sciences research.
- Proficiency in at least two of the preferred technical areas listed above.
- Scientific writing and research communication.
- Motivation to conduct interdisciplinary research.
